ACADEMIC HONOR SOCIETY
CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I: Name

This organization shall be known as the University of Wisconsin-Stout Academic Honor Society (SAHS).

ARTICLE II: Purpose

The purposes of the SAHS are to:

1. promote campus pride in scholarship
2. give recognition for high academic achievement
3. promote intellectual stimulation
4. provide cultural enrichment opportunities and social interaction for honor students

ARTICLE III: Membership

Section 1--Eligibility
Any graduate or undergraduate student with a 3.5 cumulative semester grade point average is eligible.

Section 2--Membership Requirements
Any eligible student will become a full member upon payment of dues.

Section 3--Associate Membership
Incoming freshmen, transfer students, and part-time students may apply for membership. They will be associate members (not allowed to hold an office) until they achieve a cumulative semester GPA of 3.5, at UW-Stout.

Section 4--Disqualification
A one-semester grace period will be given to all members who fall below the eligibility requirements.

ARTICLE IV: Officers

Section 1--Positions And Terms
The executive officers are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Activities Coordinator, and Public Relations. All officers will be elected in the spring of each academic year for a term of one calendar year, beginning at the end of that spring semester.

Section 2--Duties
President:
1. Conduct all meetings
2. Execute all resolutions of the executive committee

Vice President:
1. Perform all duties of the President in his/her absence
2. Assist the President in all decisions made and actions taken by the organization
3. Supervise any committees formed by the organization

Secretary:
1. Record and post the proceedings of all general meetings
2. Enact and maintain all official correspondence
3. Submit all required forms to the Stout Student Association (SSA)

Treasurer:
1. Receive and disperse all funds for the organization
2. Maintain records of all financial transactions
3. Supervise all fundraising activities
4. Submit all required forms to the Stout Student Association (SSA)

Activities Coordinator:
1. Supervise all publication of events and meetings in available media
2. Coordinate all social events, speakers, or other programs sponsored by the organization

Public Relation:
1. Aid the Activities Coordinator in the publication of events
2. Create and distribute promotional material
3. Recruit new members

ARTICLE V: The Executive Committee

Section 1--Members
The Executive Committee shall consist of the six executive officers.

Section 2--Duties
1. Determine administrative policy
2. Manage the property and business of the organization with the help of the advisor(s)
3. Originate committees and select chairpersons

Section 3--Meetings
Executive Committee meetings will be held at least twice a month and are open to any members who wish to attend.

ARTICLE VI: General Meetings

Section 1--Frequency
General meetings shall be held at least once a month, with dates, times, and locations posted well in advance.

Section 2--Quorum
Two thirds of the general membership and at least three officers will be required at any meeting in order to conduct business.

Section 3--Voting
A majority of a general membership vote will be necessary to pass any motion. The Executive Committee shall not vote except in the event of a tic.

ARTICLE VII: Elections

Section 1--Nominations
Nominations for positions shall be taken at two consecutive meetings

Section 2--Elections
The winner of an election will be the member who receives the majority of a general membership vote. The executive board shall not vote except in the event of a tie.

ARTICLE VIII: Advisory Board

The Advisory Board shall consist of one or two UW--Stout faculty who are interested in the purposes of the SAHS. The Executive Committee will extend invitations yearly.

ARTICLE IX: Dues

Membership dues shall be determined yearly by the Executive Committee.

ARTICLE X: Amendments

Any amendments to this constitution must be read at two, consecutive general meetings and receive a two-thirds majority to be enacted.
